Announcement
"Bhakti" is the Sanskrit word for loving the Divine. We try to live our lives according to this principle, and strive to see and love the Divine in everything and everyone.
These tea blends are designed to help calm the constant chatter of the mind, and help one to enjoy the peace of every moment as a gift from the Divine.
THE LEGENDARY ORIGIN OF TEA
According to legend, an Indian Buddhist monk in the 6th century traveled to China to spread the teachings of Gautama Buddha. When he reached China, he found that the Buddha's teachings had been perverted by superstitions and were devoid of true insight. Though Buddhism had been spreading in China for centuries, there had never been an Enlightened master there to keep the teachings pure. So he adopted some of the philosophical principles of the native Taoism, and developed Chan Buddhism. When this philosophy spread to Japan, it was called by the name we know it as today: Zen.
During Bodhidharma's time in China, it is said that he was in meditation continuously for nine years, staring unblinkingly at the wall outside of the Shaolin monastery. At one point during this nine year meditation, he very nearly fell asleep. He was so furious with himself for this lapse in concentration that he immediately cut off his eyelids and cast them away, lest they distract him again from his meditation. Kwan Yin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, was so moved by Bodhidharma's complete devotion to fully concentrated meditation, that the moment his eyelids touched the ground, She transformed them into a sprout. That sprout became the first tea plant.
In this way, the all-compassionate Kwan Yin gave meditators the world over the means to conquer sleep, for when we drink of the tea plant, something of Bodhidharma enters us, and sleep is held at bay.
